THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POWER AND AUTHORITY POWER by Tubosun Folarin

The ability to control people or options.
The ability or opportunity to do something can also be said to be a particular ability of the mind or body.
-          Power can be worked into to the things pertaining to your life.
-          Also, power decides who gets what, when and where.
-          Invariably, power can influence!
-          It can also be said to be that “power can get someone to do that which they would not otherwise do” – Robert Dahl. I.e. The ability of person A to get person B to take action X, minus the probability that B would do X anyway.
-          That means person A has the know how to influence the behavior of person B.
-          With power you get mastery over your life.
-          In the absence of power, you will, at best, be in a situation of dependently.
-          Of course power can be neutral – good nor bad
-          Although power cannot be seen just like the wind or electricity but its effect cannot be denied
-          Power, like beauty can be said to be in the eyes of the beholder.
-          As a person don’t ever underestimate your capacity to make things happen either in your life or your community.
AUTHORITY:
Power to give orders to people.
Power and right to do something
-          Just like the manager of a company, who has right to sign a cheque.
-          Also, king Saul, not having the authority to perform the ritual sacrifice of the priest.
-          There is a particular level you get to in knowledge, that they say you have authority.
-          My observation is that authority is gotten from somewhere, someone, somehow.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN POWER AND AUTHORITY
1). Power can be developed to a certain level while Authority cannot
2). To some extent, you can lose Authority and still maintain power.
3). Authority can be transferred, but power cannot be.
