WHY SHOULD WE THANK GOD FOR NIGERIA?
I say to you that it is a sin to refuse to thank God for Nigeria. Gratitude is not optional; it is commanded by God, even in difficult times. As Nigeria marks 64 years of independence, it is vital to reflect on the importance of thanking God for His hand in this nation.
According to Habakkuk 3:17-19
“Though the fig tree does not blossom, and there is no fruit on the vines; though the yield of the olive fails, and the fields produce no food; though the flock is cut off from the fold, and there is no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.
The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, enabling me to tread on the heights.”
Even when circumstances seem bleak and Nigeria faces various challenges, we are reminded by this scripture to rejoice in the Lord. Our praise and gratitude are not dependent on what we see, but on who God is. Despite the trials, God remains our strength, and we must thank Him for the future He is preparing for Nigeria.
And according to the warnings of Malachi 2:2
“If you will not listen, and if you will not take it to heart to give glory to My name, says the Lord of hosts, I will send a curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, because you do not take it to heart.”
This verse is a sobering reminder of the consequences of ingratitude. When we fail to give glory to God, we risk forfeiting the blessings He has bestowed upon us.
As Nigerians, it is our responsibility to take to heart the need to praise and thank God for His mercies and blessings on this nation. To refuse to thank God is to invite more hardship.
The Significance of October 1, 2024
On October 1, 2024 (01102024), which adds up to 10, Nigeria will celebrate 64 years, which also adds up to 10. The number 10 signifies perfection and divine order in biblical terms. There is perfection coming upon this nation, and we must align our hearts in thanksgiving to welcome this new season of divine breakthrough and fulfillment.
We need to really thank God for the following:
1. Thanksgiving for God's Mercy and Preservation
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end” (Lamentations 3:22).
Prayer: Lord, we thank You for Your unwavering mercy that has preserved Nigeria through every trial and tribulation. Your love has sustained us, and we are grateful.
2. Prayer for National Peace and Unity
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9).
Prayer: Father, we ask for peace in Nigeria. Let Your Spirit of unity reign across every tribe and tongue, knitting us together as one nation under God.
3. Prayer for Wisdom for Leaders
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God” (James 1:5).
Prayer: Lord, grant our leaders the wisdom to govern with integrity, righteousness, and the fear of God. Guide their decisions and align their hearts with Your will.
4. Prayer for Economic Restoration
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory” (Philippians 4:19).
Prayer: We ask for divine intervention in Nigeria’s economy. Lord, bring restoration and prosperity to every sector, supplying the needs of Your people.
5. Prayer for Revival and Spiritual Awakening
“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face…” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Prayer: Lord, revive the hearts of Nigerians. Let there be a fresh wave of spiritual awakening across the land, drawing hearts back to You in fervent worship.
6. Prayer for Divine Protection
“The Lord is my refuge and fortress, my God, in whom I trust” (Psalm 91:2).
Prayer: We declare Your protection over every state in Nigeria. Shield us from violence, terrorism, and all forms of evil. Be our refuge, O God.
7. Prayer for Youth Empowerment and Education
“Train up a child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6).
Prayer: Lord, we commit the youth of Nigeria into Your hands. Grant them opportunities for education and empowerment, raising a generation that will lead with purpose.
8. Prayer for Justice and Equity
“Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream” (Amos 5:24).
Prayer: Father, let justice reign in Nigeria. Uproot corruption and establish fairness and equity in all systems of governance.
9. Prayer for Healing and Reconciliation
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
Prayer: Lord, heal the divisions and wounds that have plagued our nation. Let there be reconciliation across ethnic, religious, and political lines.
10. Prayer for a Glorious Future
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).
• Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for the glorious future You have planned for Nigeria. We declare that Your plans for this nation will come to fruition, and Nigeria will fulfill her destiny.
The truth is, if we have lost anything as a nation, God is the reason we have not yet lost everything, so He deserves all the thanks.
As Nigeria celebrates her 64th independence, let us not forget to thank God for His hand upon this nation. Perfection is coming, and as we remain steadfast in prayer and thanksgiving, we position ourselves to witness God's perfect plan unfold in Nigeria. God bless Nigeria!
