WORDSPIRATION: CELEBRATING DR DAVID OLANIYI OYEDEPO AT 70 DAY 4

**Beware of the "Here and There" Syndrome: Stay Committed to Your Purpose**

In life, many people fall into the "here and there" syndrome, where they chase after every opportunity, idea, or distraction that comes their way, without a clear focus or commitment to their purpose. This scattered approach leads to frustration, lack of progress, and wasted potential. To fulfill your God-given purpose, it is crucial to stay focused, avoid distractions, and commit fully to your calling.

### **1. Avoid Distractions and Stay Focused on Your Purpose**

Distractions are inevitable in life, but allowing them to steer you away from your purpose can hinder the plans God has for you. The Bible advises against being double-minded or easily swayed. James 1:8 says, **"A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways."** When we lack focus, we become unstable, and our spiritual growth and progress suffer. Like a runner focused on the finish line, we must press on toward the goal, undeterred by the distractions around us.

### **2. Stay Committed to Your God-Given Assignment**

Ecclesiastes 9:10 encourages us to be diligent in our work: **"Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might."** This means putting all our energy into the tasks God has assigned us, without wavering. If we commit fully to our purpose, God will bless our efforts. When we stay committed, like Nehemiah rebuilding the wall in Jerusalem, we accomplish great things. Nehemiah 6:3 says, **“I am doing a great work, and I cannot come down."** Despite opposition and distractions, Nehemiah stayed focused on his task, which led to the successful completion of the wall.

### **3. Set Your Mind on Things Above**

Colossians 3:2 reminds us to, **"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things."** When we focus on our heavenly purpose, we are less likely to be swayed by fleeting distractions. Jesus Himself set the example of staying focused on His mission despite opposition, temptations, and challenges (Luke 9:51). He remained steadfast in fulfilling His purpose of redeeming humanity.

### **4. Seek God's Guidance to Stay on Track**

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to, **"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."** A key part of avoiding distractions is seeking God's guidance daily. By submitting our plans to God and seeking His wisdom, we ensure that we remain on the path He has set for us.

### **5. The Danger of Chasing After Every Opportunity**

Chasing every opportunity can lead to exhaustion and confusion. The Bible warns against this in Proverbs 12:11, **"Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense."** Rather than chasing fantasies or jumping from one thing to another, we are called to be faithful in our current assignments, trusting that God will open the right doors at the right time.

### **6. Endure and Persevere in Your Purpose**

Hebrews 12:1-2 encourages us to **“run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith."** Staying committed to your purpose requires endurance, especially when faced with challenges or distractions. By keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, we are empowered to persevere and finish the race God has called us to.

In conclusion, as we reflect on the importance of staying committed to our God-given purpose, we honor a man who has exemplified this principle throughout his life—Bishop David Oyedepo.
