DAY 2 — RECEIVE THE SPIRIT OF ADOPTION

DAY 2

— RECEIVE THE SPIRIT OF ADOPTION

Old Testament Reading: Psalm 27:7–10
New Testament Reading: Romans 8:14–17
Memory Verse: Romans 8:15 — “Ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”

WORDSPIRATION — YOU BELONG TO THE FATHER

There is a deep cry within every human heart—the desire to belong. People search for acceptance in relationships, achievements, wealth, status, social media, careers and recognition. Yet, beneath all these pursuits is a spiritual hunger that only God can satisfy. The good news of the Gospel is that through Jesus Christ, God does not merely offer us forgiveness; He offers us a place in His family. Through Christ, the stranger becomes a son, the orphan finds a Father, the rejected finds acceptance, and the lost finds a home. Romans 8:15 declares that we have received “the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”

The spirit of bondage teaches people to live in fear—fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of tomorrow, fear of death, fear of poverty and even fear of approaching God. But the Holy Spirit introduces us to a completely different reality. He reveals the Father. He reminds us that in Christ, we are not abandoned. We are not spiritual orphans wandering through life without direction. We belong to God. Psalm 27:10 gives us a powerful assurance: “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.” Human beings may disappoint us, relationships may fail, circumstances may change, and people may walk away, but God's fatherhood remains steadfast.

Knowing that God is your Father changes the way you pray. You don't come before Him merely as someone trying to persuade a reluctant God to care about you. You come with reverence, but also with confidence. A child who knows that he is loved does not need to live constantly trying to earn acceptance. Likewise, the believer does not serve God merely to prove his worth. We serve because we have been loved, accepted and adopted through Christ. This is why the Gospel is so powerful: Jesus does not merely change our destination; He changes our identity.

Perhaps someone reading this devotional feels forgotten today. Perhaps you have been rejected by people you trusted. Maybe your family does not understand you. Perhaps you have experienced disappointment, loneliness, poverty, persecution or prolonged uncertainty. Hear this truth today: your circumstances do not have the final authority to define who you are. If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, your deepest identity is no longer determined by what people say about you, what you possess, where you come from, or what you have experienced. You are invited into the family of God. And if you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, the Father is calling you home—not into religious performance, but into a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ.

The Spirit of adoption also gives us courage to face tomorrow. A child who knows his father is present can face an unfamiliar environment with greater confidence. In the same way, God's children can walk through uncertain seasons knowing that they are not walking alone. The world may be experiencing wars, economic hardship, insecurity, hunger, displacement and political uncertainty, but the Church must remember that our hope is ultimately in God. We are called to pray, serve, show compassion, pursue righteousness and proclaim the Gospel—not from fear, but from the security of knowing that our Father reigns.

Therefore, as we continue through this month, allow the Holy Spirit to uproot every orphan mentality from your heart. You don't have to spend your life desperately seeking validation from people. You don't have to allow rejection to become your identity. You don't have to allow fear to become your master. Come back to the Father. Open your heart to Him. Cry, “Abba, Father.” Let His love heal the places where rejection has wounded you. Let His Word rebuild your confidence. Let His Spirit teach you to live as His child.

And to everyone across the nations who is searching for hope, Jesus Christ is still calling humanity home. Whether you are in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America or Oceania; whether you are rich or poor, celebrated or forgotten, educated or uneducated, strong or broken—God's invitation through Christ remains open. Salvation is found in Jesus. The Father is not calling you into bondage but into freedom, reconciliation and eternal life. Receive Christ. Return to the Father. Discover who you truly are in Him.

KINGDOM ADVANCEMENT PRAYER 🌍

🇳🇬 NIGERIA — A NATION IN NEED OF GOD'S FATHERHOOD

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we commit Nigeria into Your hands. As the nation journeys toward the 2027 general elections, let Your Spirit of wisdom, truth, justice and peace prevail. Protect Nigeria from violence, manipulation, hatred, ethnic conflict, religious tension and every force that seeks to turn citizens against one another.

Lord, let the 2027 electoral process be conducted peacefully and responsibly. Raise leaders who understand that leadership is a responsibility to the people and not merely an avenue for personal gain. Give Nigerians wisdom to participate peacefully and responsibly in the democratic process.

Father, intervene in the challenge of insecurity. Bring an end to terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, communal violence and every form of criminality threatening lives and livelihoods. Comfort families that have lost loved ones and strengthen those living under fear.

Lord, have mercy on Nigeria concerning hunger, poverty and economic hardship. Let food become accessible to families. Strengthen farmers, businesses and workers. Open productive opportunities for young people and families. Give government and private-sector leaders wisdom to develop sustainable solutions that improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

Father, restore justice and integrity to our institutions. Let corruption, exploitation and abuse of power give way to accountability, righteousness and responsible leadership. And above all, let the Gospel of Jesus Christ spread across Nigeria, transforming hearts before it transforms institutions.

Nigeria belongs to You, Lord. Let righteousness exalt this nation.
