JOHN CHAPTER 2

ECCCYI

Today we continue to get to know Jesus in our study of the Gospel of John. A lot happens in today's chapter (John:2) including the very first miracle Jesus performed: turning water into wine at a wedding feast.

In John chapter 2 we see Jesus celebrating a wedding with friends and family. It's not uncommon to think that we as Christians must always be serious as we go about Christ's work. But then we miss out on the joy and fellowship that comes from celebrating God's good work!

We learn more about Jesus in the second half of the John:2 when He visits the temple in Jerusalem. As John describes Jesus chasing out the merchants, he quotes a verse from the Psalms: "zeal for your house will consume me." When Jesus saw people dishonoring God in the very place designed for worship, He couldn't let such a thing stand.

The Apostle Paul would later describe our own bodies as a temple to God. So, how are you honoring God today?

PRAYER
Our Father, We understand that we can't provide our own internal fulfillment and joy and that we need you. You are the only one who can bring joy and fill all the empty parts of us. We pray that as we continue in our reading of John that our faith in you would deepen and that we would get continue to know and understand who you were and your heart. In Jesus' name, Amen.

John 2 English Standard Version (ESV)

The Wedding at Cana

2 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.[a] 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. 9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

12 After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother and his brothers[b] and his disciples, and they stayed there for a few days.

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

13 The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. 15 And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. 16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father's house a house of trade.” 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.”

18 So the Jews said to him, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?” 19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” 20 The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple,[c] and will you raise it up in three days?” 21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body. 22 When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.

Jesus Knows What Is in Man

23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. 24 But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people 25 and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man.

***

Now here's a memorable story: Jesus turns water into wine. But has it ever struck you as kind of an odd miracle? I mean, Jesus is known for healing the sick and the lame and for driving out demons. But did He really get his start performing "social miracles" like this? It's a bit like watching a Before They Were Stars special.

So, why is this story important? That's a good question, but there's a danger to avoid in answering it. Be careful how much you read into the specifics of any Bible story. If you wanted to, you could launch an in-depth study of how the word "water," for instance, is used in the Bible. What was wine like in Jesus' day? The word "bridegroom" comes up elsewhere in Scripture--in Revelation Jesus is seen as the bridegroom of the Church. Is that important here?

These are interesting questions, but the Bible actually tells us quite plainly why this story is here. "This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him" (2:11, ESV). This miracle was done for the disciple's benefit.
A lot of bad theology comes from reading too deeply into the words of the Bible. But God hasn't made the truth hard to find. You just have to accept it when you see it.

REFLECTION & APPLICATION
Think about what you read today, Does it change how you view Jesus at all? Do you find yourself becoming too serious sometimes? Have your forgotten God created joy and fun and fulfillment? Or are you like the merchants in the temple? Uncaring and unconcerned about how your actions reflect upon God. We need to have a healthy respect and awe of God but we should ask ourselves is this God's Kingdom I'm living in our my own? Do I let God fill me with Joy or do I look to this world?

TOWARDS.ACTUALIZING YOUR BIRTHRIGHT OF MORE THAN A CONQUEROR BY BISHOP DAVID OYEDEPO | 2ND JANUARY 2022

Those who pray for you or against you does not really matter. All that matters is your faith in Christ.

To actualize your more than conquerors status, you need the following:

1. Commit to building your faith
Habakkuk 2:1-4

Faith has unlimited power for growth.
2 Thess 1:3, Mark 9:23, Romans 1:17

Faith goes from faith to faith.

Faith is not just faith, it is actually in degrees.

Revelation 3:18 Free yourself from the laodecian syndrome.

Always create room for continuous learning. What you score yourself  determines how committed you are to contnuous learning  1 Corinthians 8:2

You never stop changing class in the school of faith.

Why do you need to continue buidling your faith.

LITTLE FAITH cannot successfully cross the red sea.

Hebrews 11:11 Little faith cannot conceive at old age.

Romans 4:20 Refusing to starger is the strong faith needed for conception atbood age.

Little faith cannot stop the mouth of lions

Little faith cannot calm the storms of life.

Little faith cannot quench the fiery furnace.

Muscles dont develop on their own, there is need for a conscious approach.

Faith develops by hearing and understanding the word of God.

Spiritual understanding of the truth is been able to see what God is saying.

Faith grows by hearing and understanding the word of God.

It is taking personal responsibility that speed up the rate at which we develop our faith mucles.

Hebrews 11:33-34 Faith is not what you wait for, but what you go after or consciously develop.

A genuine kingdom dream would always lead you to financial fortune.

Books you buy but wont read would not benefit your life.

What you do with what you acquire is what defines or gives value to your salvation.

The quality of the books you read would define the quality of your visions and revelations.

2. Be committed to a lifestyle of prompt, delightsome and tireless obedience.

Psalm 112:1-3

Thrones are not for babies. There is a need to mature.

Deuteronomy 28:1 Diligence to do what you are commanded is what makes a more than a Conqueror.

Genesis 12:4, Genesis 22:2, Genesis 17:10,22 The prompt obedience of Abraham.

Prompt, delightsome and tireless obedience would always a qualify a man for a sworn blessing.

When giving stops, the flow of blessings stop. So giving must be tireless.

Haggai 1:1-13 When you stop doing the things that opens up the heavens, there is a shutting up.

Exodus 20:4-5, Daniel 3:28 God never watch those who obey him die.

3. Be committed to engaging with prayers of enquiries when confronted with battles.

Lord, what must I do? 1 Samuel 30: 6-9, 17-18, 2 Samuel 5:19, 23

4. Be committed to growing your love for God.

Grow your love to the realm of  that of God.

1 John 4:16, John 3:16, Ephesians 3:17

You need to be rooted and grounded in love.

Romans 8:35 Nothing should be able to take you away from the love of God. .

Philppians 1:24 - 25, Acts 14:19, Ephesians 3:17-19, 1 Corinthians 2:9

We must grow our love to the level that God loves.

5. Be committed to a life style of Thanksgiving and praise to secure and sustain Gods presence.

1 Thessalonians 5:18, Ephesians 10:36, Romans 8:31

JOHN 1 - DAY 1 READING

ECCCYI

In today's reading, John 1:18 stands out. "No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known."

Did you know that the responsibility of Jesus was to explain God for us? Jesus' life as a man was God's way of putting on sandals, walking around on this earth and saying, "This is Me! This is my heart! This is my compassion! This is my love! This is my kindness!" Sometimes we can get some crazy ideas about who God is. But if you really want to know who He is, there's no better place to look than at the One who's assigned the responsibility to explain God for us: Jesus.

PRAYER
Our Father, we are thankful that You love us, that You sent Jesus to be the Word made flesh in order to explain your heart to the world. Lord, I pray over the next several weeks that You would open our eyes to the truth of who Jesus is. We pray that for the next 21 days our hearts and our minds would be opened in a new and fresh way, that we would find Jesus irresistible. We pray we would fall more deeply in love with the One who has poured out grace upon grace to us as sinful people. This I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.

John 1 English Standard Version (ESV)

The Word Became Flesh

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life,[a] and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own,[b] and his own people[c] did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son[d] from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) 16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.[e] 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God,[f] who is at the Father's side,[g] he has made him known.

The Testimony of John the Baptist

19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” 21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22 So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” 23 He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight[h] the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

24 (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) 25 They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” 26 John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, 27 even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” 28 These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Behold, the Lamb of God

29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32 And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33 I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son[i] of God.”

Jesus Calls the First Disciples

35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. 38 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.[j] 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus[k] was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). 42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter[l]).

Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael

43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” 48 Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” 50 Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you,[m] you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

REFLECTION & APPLICATION
As you read through the Gospel of John in this 21 day challenge, pay attention to how Jesus lived. Look at how He treated the sinners and the strugglers and the misfits. Look at how they responded to Him! And as you watch Jesus and His ministry remember that you're not just seeing the actions of man, but you are seeing the heart of God on full display for everyone to see.

Finally, as we go through this 21 day challenge, if you find Jesus compelling, if you find Him irresistible, if you find yourself saying, "This is the Jesus that I want to identify with!" then we here at Back to the Bible want to know.

Until tomorrow, feel free to leave your comments below...

THE PROPHETIC FOCUS FOR 2022 - STEP UP TO GREATNESS Ezekiel 31:4

As I began to seek the face of the lord as it relates to what the year 2022 holds, my spirit man tapped into the fountain of the Holy Spirit. The success story of the Chinese bamboo suddenly came up in my mind, and I went forth in a search.

Like any plant, the growth of the Chinese Bamboo Tree requires nurturing – water, fertile soil, sunshine.

In its first year, we see no visible signs of activity. In the second year, again, no growth above the soil. The third, the fourth, still nothing. Our patience is tested and we begin to wonder if our efforts (caring, water, etc.) will ever be rewarded.

And finally in the fifth year – behold, a miracle! We experience growth. And what growth it is! The Chinese Bamboo Tree grows 80 feet in just six weeks!

What did not grow in five years now unleashes its greatness within 6 weeks, as it grows to 80 feet.
* The year coming is a year of phenomenal growth and expansion.
* It shall be a year of extraordinary growth.
* It shall be a year of extravagant grace.
* A year of supernatural speed.
* A year of extraordinary accomplishments.

* A year with a new name.

* A year of stepping up the ladder of greatness.

The year 2022 shall demand active patience, faith, perseverance, growth & personal development. It shall also reveal the power of human potential.

The earth was without form, empty and darkness had a filled day while the Spirit of the Lord moved upon the face of the waters. Genesis 1:1-2

Incompleteness in the face of the Spirit moving upon the waters required declaration that brought about a unique manifestation. Genesis 1:3

Let there be light and there was light. The instant response of light came as a result of the uncommon declaration.

* The year 2022 would demand an ever-advancing faith.
* The year 2022 would demand uncommon patience.
* The year 2022 would demand perseverance.
* The year 2022 would witness phenomenal growth.
* The year 2022 would culminate in massive development.
* The year 2022 would inspire the unleashing of greatness in human potential.

It is the year that would unveil the mystery of strong meat anointing. This anointing would bring about the sporadic rise of strong meat ministries.

Many organizations, companies, and institutions founded on strong biblical principles shall begin to arise from all around the continent of Africa, culminating in the birth of new breed leaders, entrepreneurs, and agents of change.

Many shall be stepping out of mediocrity and stepping up to greatness. This greatness shall come at the instance of waters - revelational inspiration, information, interaction, intercession, and impartation.

Habakkuk 2:14 (KJV) For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

The strong meat anointing which would culminate in strong meat ministries would operate primarily on kingdom revelations. Deep insights and knowledge that might seem hidden from many religious people.

2 Corinthians 4:3-6 (KJV)  But if our gospel is hidden, it is hidden to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Many unfulfilled dreams and aspirations would come alive in the year 2022. It is the year of the making of the man.

The year 2022 shall be a year of STEPPING UP TO GREATNESS.

Ezekiel 31:4

WELCOME TO THE YEAR OF YOUR MAKING. YOUR NEW STATUS WILL COME WITH A NEW NAME, NEW STATUS, NEW LEVELS AND NEW BEGINNING.

JANUARY 2022: PROPHETIC FOCUS

The spiritual force field around a person is the capital determinant of his or her greatness.

In the multitude of people is the kings honour. The host that surrounds a man says a lot about his greatness.

When a man is in the convoy of the president of a nation, whatever salutes the president automatically salutes him.

Whatever bows to the president bows to him. Whatever defines the greatness of the president defines his greatness for as long as he stays true to the presidential company.

God is the carrier of the ultimate force field known as divine presence. This is what commands unstoppable greatness.

In the month of January, divine presence will surely make all the difference. It is the capital stepping stone to greatness.

As we engage in fasting and prayers and intense word study, pressing unto revelation, we build greater force fields that helps us develop greater command in the affairs of life.

We share the same nature or DNA with God who created us. His breath is in us and where carry his kind of life. At salvation, we reconnected with the very breath that Adam and Eve lost.

That life is the very life of God that makes us gods in himan flesh. Exodus 7:1. Psalm 82:5-7. John 10:34-35, John 14:12

The only way we can actually walk in this divine reality is to catch a revelation of God's divine presence that makes the difference in the life of the carrier of the life of God.

• By reason of divine presence, everywhere you step into from now, contrary forces would bow at your appearance.
• Everything you call for will answer to your command.
• Barriers will of their own accord crumble as you approach.
• Supernatural favour would attend to you speedily.
• Whatever cannot stop the way against God would no longer survive your presence.
• Whatever cannot challenge the way against God, that dares you from hence forth suffers sudden destruction.
• Whatever cannot refuse God would not have the capacity to refuse you.

The prophetic focus for January 2022 is: DIVINE PRESENCE: KEY TO STEPPING UP TO GREATNESS. Psalm 29:1-11

Welcome to the Year 2022 - STEP UP TO GREATNESS.
