BUILDING LEADERSHIP CAPACITY by Dr David OYEDEPO (Landmark University)

As the morning shows the day, the boy shows the man.

>One that flies a spacecraft is called an 'Astronaut', while one that flies an aircraft is
called a pilot and one that drives a moto vehicle is called a driver

>The sun has not been shielded from shinning by the multitudes of the birds in the air.

What is leadership?

It is making valuable contribution and not just occupying a position.

• Leadership is accomplishing a feat and not just accupying a seat.

• They are not people with long chains of degrees  but contributors.

• They are men that leave their foot prints on the sands of time.

• The real worth of a leader is in the value he adds, the contributions he makes the feats
accomplishes and the impacts he engenders.

-Deut. 34:10-12

• It is not talking the lead, it's taking the
lead - 1 Cor. 11:1/ Phi. 3:17

•  It is not appointment, but an attainment - Heb. 11:32-34

• It is not in the titles we wear, but in the
values we bear – Mat. 24:45-47

• Leadership is not an endowment; but by accomplishment - Heb. 12:1-2/ 1 Cor. 9:24-26

• Leaders are readers and every committed reader is a potential leader - Dan. 9:2/ 2 Tim. 4:13

• Talking and learning nothing is what makes a loser.

• Show me a reader today, and I will show you a potential leader tomorrow.

• Leaders of reknown  are commited learners.

Daniel 9:2 Leaders are made in the crucible of books.

• Leaders are learners, and every committed learner is a potential leader

• Leaders are made in the crucible of responsibility.

•  Leadership is all about taking the lead, setting the pace and blazing the trail in
one's field.

• This implies that anybody can become a leader if he is willing to fulfil the demands of leadership Mat. 20:25-28

It is hard work that makes highflyers
Deut. 28:1

Leadership is all about taking the lead, setting the pace and blazing the trail in one's field.

It is hard work that makes highflyers
Deut. 28:1

Hard work never wears people out, it is wrong work that does.

Nothing works without someone at work!
- Because there is nothing in doing nothing

"Our leadership potentials will never
have expression beyond the quality of
engagement.

Work is a catalyst for the leadership
potentials in us to blossom

Four Platforms to Engage in developing our Leadership Potential
► Self Management
► Time Management
► Task Management and
► Resource Management

Self management is all about:
Setting order over one's life
Dogged pursuit of one's vision and
> Maximum investment time, energy
and resources in driving one's task.

Setting goals and driving at them
> Being able to separate between the lawful
and the expedient
> Making quality decision and standing by
it. Being a law to oneself

• Efficient self management is what
determines one's ultimate accomplishment
•Leadership in any field begins
with leading oneself efficiently.

• Benjamin Franklin, once said; Doth thou love life, then don't squander time, invest it for that is the stuff life is made up of.

• Shakespear also noted:
•/ wasted time, now time doth waste me
Nnamdi Azikwe said:
Give me my 'youth back', and I will pay
any price for it.

Life is all about investment of your God given virtues.

You never lack what you give, you lack what you give.
