DAY 8 — LET THERE BE LIGHT
Old Testament: Genesis 1:1–5
New Testament: John 1:1–9
Memory Verse: “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” — Genesis 1:3
WORDSPIRATION
In the beginning, the earth was without form and void, and darkness covered the deep. There was potential, but there was no order. There was a divine purpose, but it had not yet become visible. Then God spoke one powerful command: “Let there be light.” And immediately, darkness could no longer remain the dominant reality. Light came, and with light came distinction, order and visibility. This reminds us that sometimes what we need most is not more effort, but more light. When God illuminates a situation, what was confusing begins to make sense, what was hidden becomes visible, and what appeared impossible begins to reveal its possibilities.
John introduces us to Jesus Christ as the true Light that shines in the darkness. “In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John 1:4–5). This means that our deepest illumination is not merely intellectual; it is spiritual. Christ does not simply give us information—He gives us revelation. He does not merely show us what is happening around us; He helps us understand what God is doing within us and through us. When Christ becomes the centre of our lives, we begin to see people, opportunities, challenges, relationships and seasons through the perspective of God's truth.
But there is something important about divine light: light does not only reveal possibilities; it also reveals problems. When light enters a dark room, it exposes what was previously hidden. In the same way, when God's Word shines into our hearts, it may reveal attitudes, habits, relationships, compromises or decisions that need correction. We should not reject the light simply because it exposes something uncomfortable. God's correction is not intended to destroy us; it is intended to prepare us for manifestation. Before God takes us into greater dimensions, He often brings greater illumination. Sometimes the reason God is showing you something you would rather not see is because He is preparing you for something you have been praying to receive.
Light also gives direction. You may have strength, talent, resources and opportunities, yet still move in circles when you lack clarity. Many people are busy but not necessarily productive; they are moving but not necessarily progressing. The difference is often direction. A person walking in darkness can run with great speed and still end up in the wrong place. But when God gives light, even a small step can become a significant step because it is taken in the right direction. This is why we must learn to seek God's light before making major decisions. Do not merely ask God to open every door before you; ask Him to give you discernment to recognize the right door. Not every opportunity is an assignment, and not every open door is a door God wants you to enter.
Today, God is still saying, “Let there be light.” Light over your decisions. Light over your family. Light over your career. Light over your ministry. Light over your finances. Light over your relationships. Light over your future. Where there has been confusion, may revelation arise. Where there has been uncertainty, may divine wisdom speak. Where there has been hidden opposition, may truth expose it. Where you have been walking without understanding, may God illuminate your path. You may not have all the answers today, but you can trust the One who sees what you cannot see. When His light leads you, you do not have to understand everything before taking the next step.
Therefore, in this season, do not be afraid of the light. Embrace God's truth even when it corrects you. Embrace His Word even when it challenges you. Embrace His direction even when it requires you to change your plans. The light of God is not coming to limit your destiny; it is coming to guide you into it. Darkness may surround you, but it does not have the authority to define you. Confusion may knock at your door, but it does not have to control your decisions. Christ is the Light, and where His light shines, darkness loses its power. Rise today with confidence, knowing that your path does not have to remain uncertain. The God who commanded light to shine at creation is still able to speak light into every dark area of your life.
PRAYER FOR THE NATIONS
Let us pray for Nigeria, especially for truth, justice, peace and wise leadership.
Pray also for Kenya, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Canada, Colombia and New Zealand, that the light of Christ will influence families, communities, institutions and leaders, and that truth, righteousness, wisdom and justice will prevail.
PRAYER
Father, let Your light shine upon every area of my life. Remove confusion, expose deception, correct what needs to be corrected, and give me clarity for every decision before me. Let the light of Christ guide my steps and let Your Word become a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Help me to recognize the doors You have opened and give me wisdom to walk away from those You have not ordained. May my life become a light that points others to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
PROPHETIC DECLARATION
The light of God shines upon my path. Darkness shall not determine my direction. Confusion shall not control my decisions. I receive clarity, truth, wisdom and divine understanding through Christ. Every hidden thing that must be revealed is coming into the light. I will not walk blindly into my future. The Lord is ordering my steps, illuminating my path and guiding me into His purpose for my life. I arise and shine, for my light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon me. In Jesus' name, Amen!
